“I’ve been here at Northaven for more than seven years. When you visit, hopefully you’ll feel our passion for creating a sense of home for every resident, knowing that it’s different for everyone. Come and visit us for lunch and be sure to ask all your questions!”
Northaven is a close-knit and sociable community. Tucked on Shadforth Street in Kerang, it’s the kind of place where everyone stops to smile and say hello. We can’t wait to do the same when you join us for a visit!

We’re only a two-minute drive to shops, cafes, and the centre of town, but you’ll get all the gorgeous benefits of country life. Clean, crisp air. Beautiful scenic views of surrounding plains and bush life. And a strong sense of community, where everyone supports each other.

On our grounds, you’ll find beautiful flowers and gardens with lush greenery (thanks to a few green-thumbed residents). Plus, all the support and care you need to live your life with meaning and purpose, in whatever way you choose.

Lifestyle + activities

Living well together

Whatever you love to do, let’s make it happen at Northaven

Like many country communities, Northaven is warm and close-knit. We have such a strong sense of community because we celebrate and support every person in their own, unique way. That’s our approach to exceptional care: it’s all about you. Tell us what you enjoy, and we’ll invite you to actively contribute to our community. Love gardening? We’d love to hear your recommendations on potting techniques, or the best time to plant our tomatoes!

Lots of visitors say Northaven feels like a family home, with strong connections and a shared sense of belonging. There’s always something new and exciting happening, with music and laughter often filling our halls. The Hokey Pokey is a big favourite: so much so that residents of all abilities are able to join in and sing along. That’s typical of Northaven. It’s about enjoying and participating in life in the way that best suits you.

Live well, your way

Living well looks different for everybody. Whatever you love to do—whatever makes your day and makes life meaningful—we’re here to make it happen.

Some of the hobbies and activities we support residents with include:

  • Many residents come from farming families. So, we enjoy spending time outdoors: visiting farms to see animals, smelling flowers and cherishing fond memories spent in the great outdoors.
  • We all love furry friends: dogs are frequently invited to visit, and there’s a popular resident cat, Tom, called the ‘most loved cat in Kerang’. We’ve even had residents bring their dogs along to live with them full time.
  • We hold a regular men’s group, where you can have a chat or a cuppa. Sometimes we do woodwork. As one participant described it, ‘it’s pretty much guided by what the blokes want to do!’
  • Some of our residents love fishing. We’ve supported them to go for fishing days, with many lakes just a stone’s throw from our doorstep.

What's important to you?

These are some examples, but living well looks different for every person. It’s all about taking the time to understand your preferences, hobbies, and passions. We’d love to chat through your favourite things to do when you visit us for a tour.

Food

What’s on the menu

There’s always something fresh and delicious on offer at Northaven, with a choice of tasty, healthy meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Family and friends are always welcome to join too: all you need to do is book ahead.

Fresh, seasonal menus

Our chefs prepare all food on site using delicious seasonal ingredients. Our menu is designed by reputable chefs in partnership with qualified dietitians, with special meals and themed menus for important cultural events.

A range of delicious options every day

Choice is important in every aspect of life at Northaven. Food is no exception. You’ll have the choice of two hot options for lunch and dinner, and sometimes three. There are fresh sandwiches and salads available for lunch and dinner, and bowls of fresh seasonal fruit you can enjoy throughout the day, every day.

Personalised dietary preferences

We have regular food focus meetings with residents to help decide the types of meals we offer. While our base menu is approved by a specialised dietitian, we adjust the menu based on your feedback, preferences and individual dietary needs.
