Wellbeing After Violence EndS: WAVES
A Victorian Program
On this page:
We offer free therapeutic services for children, young people, and adults who are recovering from their experience of family violence.
The service is funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing. It is delivered in partnership with Victorian Aboriginal Health Service.
Who is this service for?
This program is available to single adults, children, and families who:
- are living or studying in the Brimbank, Melton, Hume-Merribek and Western Melbourne areas
- have experienced family violence and are currently safe from immediate risks after trauma
- are ready to engage in sessions and supports to recover from the impact of family violence.
How do I access the service?
If you are looking to access the service yourself, you can self-refer into the program.
You can do this by one of two ways:
- Request a referral form by emailing pwreferrals@baptcare.org.au
- Call 1800 570 784 during business hours, 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
If you are looking to make a referral, any service provider working with victim-survivors of family violence can also refer into the program using the same methods above.
What will happen when I access the service?
What will my experience look like?
The WAVES service offers appointments wherever you feel most comfortable. That could be at our offices, in your home, or out in the community. Our services are culturally sensitive and LGBTQIA+ inclusive.
Services can change depending on your unique personal situation, and the best supports for you. They could include:
- Individual counselling for adults, young people, and children.
- Family work to strengthen communication and relationships.
- Group programs that promote healing after trauma.
The length of service we provide will also vary depending on your unique needs and situation.
The WAVES family can provide support for up to 6 months, offering fortnightly visits that typically last for 1 hour.
We keep your information private
We will deal with anything you tell us with respect. We will also keep your information private.
However, where a Baptcare worker has concerns in regard to the safety of a child—or children—we have a duty of care to discuss this concern with Child Protection.
Providing compliments and feedback
